THE PREPS : Brea-Olinda’s Football Coach Granted a Leave

Bill Brown, Brea-Olinda High School football coach for the past six years, has been granted a one-year leave of absence from his coaching duties but will remain at the school as an instructor in the boys’ physical education department.

Jon Looney, the Wildcats’ defensive coordinator for the past three years, was named the interim head coach.

“I don’t know if I’m burned out from coaching. I just think it’s time for a change,” Brown said. “The program is in good shape; it just needs some new enthusiasm.”

Brown served as an assistant for three years before taking over as head coach for the 1982 season. He had a 32-25-3 record and led Brea-Olinda to three playoff appearances in the Southern Section Central Conference.

“I feel good about what I’ve done here,” Brown said. “There was no pressure to make this decision. I plan to look into some other job opportunities and play a lot of golf.”

Brown said he would continue as the Wildcats’ junior varsity golf coach.
