Derrick Williams, Carlsbad High School football player, said Sunday he will sign a letter of intent with San Diego State.

Williams, an outside linebacker, selected SDSU over Nevada Las Vegas.

“I’ve always wanted to go to State,” Williams said. “It was kind of a dream coming true. All of a sudden the college you want to go to, wants you.”

Chris Nottoli, a wide receiver from San Pasqual High School, said he gave a oral commitment to Utah Sunday night.

Torrey Pines wide receiver Tom Underwood said he committed to Illinois State. Tim Johnson, a quarterback from Mountain Empire, said he rejected an offer from the school and will most likely attend Grossmont College.

Nottoli said he turned down scholarship offers from Northwestern, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Air Force and Boston University.

On picking Utah, Nottoli said, “I like their passing offense. Their offense is so pass oriented that they have five receivers that see playing time.”

Nottoli led San Pasqual to a tie with San Marcos for the San Diego Section 2-A championship last season.

Underwood, also is a point guard on Torrey Pines’ basketball team, and said he will also try out for the Illinois State basketball team.

Underwood caught 31 passes for 671 yards this past season. He said he turned down a scholarship offer from Cal Lutheran and will cancel a recruiting trip to Boston University.

“They have only two receivers on scholarship and they expect me to play right away,” Underwood said.
