Jack Swan, a 6-3, 255-pound offensive lineman from El Camino Real High, has verbally committed his intent to accept a football scholarship from the University of Georgia.

Swan, a Times All-Valley and All-City selection, chose the Bulldogs over USC, Utah, Colorado and Washington.

“They take their football very seriously back there,” Swan said. “They live for it. I’m really looking forward to getting started.

Swan will make things official with the Southeastern Conference school on Wednesday, the first day high school seniors can sign letters of intent.

Another lineman, 6-5, 240-pound Tom Curran of Canyon, said he will sign with New Mexico on Wednesday.

Curran chose New Mexico over Cal State Northridge, but the Matadors appear to be having another strong recruiting year in the wake of last season’s 7-4 record.

Northridge has received verbal committments from four more junior college players who plan to sign letters on Wednesday.

Mike Meehan, a 6-5, 250-pound defensive tackle from Southwestern College, chose CSUN over West Texas State. Rod Weber, a 6-1, 265-pound nose tackle, chose the Matadors over Western Football Conference rival Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Linebackers Andre Washington, 6-2, 250 pounds from Glendale, and Jeff Dixon, 6-3, 225 pounds from San Jose City, will also go to Northridge.

Their signing gives CSUN 23 incoming JC transfers.

Northridge is still awaiting the decision from four other high school recruits: John Eliason, a 6-1, 210-pound center from Wilson of Hacienda Heights; Tommy Howard, a 5-11, 160-pound cornerback from San Fernando; Jim Burke, a 6-2, 200-pound linebacker from Woodbridge of Irvine; and Damiean Jenkins, a 6-3, 230-pound defensive lineman from Saugus.
