Southern Section Masters, City Wrestling Finals Today

The Masters wrestling meet, which qualifies Southern Section competitors for the state finals, will be held today at Fountain Valley High School. Preliminary rounds begin at 9:30 a.m., with the consolation matches at 2:30 p.m. and the championships at 4.

Six wrestlers from 13 weight classes will advance to the state finals, to be held March 4-5 at the University of the Pacific.

Meanwhile, the City finals, with 13 teams competing from two leagues, will be held at San Fernando High, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The championship matches will begin at 7:30. The top 4 finishers in the 13 weight classes advance to the state meet.

The Southern Section girls’ basketball playoffs enter the quarterfinal round tonight, with the top four seeded teams, Inglewood Morningside (27-1), Santa Barbara (23-2), Lynwood (26-3) and Ventura Buena (23-2), still alive.

All three entrants from the Channel League are still playing in the 4-A--Santa Barbara, Buena and Ventura (16-10).
