Share

A new Alemany football coach will be selected today by the school principal from a list of four finalists, school officials said Tuesday.

Father Michael Nocita said he will announce the decision at noon today, choosing among Pat Blackburn, the Montclair Prep coach; Rick Herrington, the Hart sophomore coach; Mark Lovett, a Cal State Northridge assistant; and Mike Noonan, an assistant last season to Alemany’s Enrique Lopez, who was fired Jan. 28. Lopez was 17-22-2 in four seasons, including a 3-5-2 record last season.

Blackburn, who was Alemany’s defensive coordinator in 1985 when the team was 8-3, coached Montclair Prep to a 12-9 record over the past two seasons. Herrington has posted a 68-10-2 record, including a current 40-game win streak, in eight years as the Hart sophomore coach.

Lovett, who has coached the CSUN running backs for two seasons, started his coaching career in 1981 at his alma mater, El Camino Real High.

Noonan joined Lopez’s staff in the fall as the offensive and defensive line coach and previously was head coach at Mission Central High in San Luis Obispo.
