Grant 5, Hollywood 0--Jason Parker, who could not have pitched any worse than he did in his first varsity start against North Hollywood last week, threw a four-hitter to lead Grant in an East Valley League game at Hollywood.

Parker (1-1) walked 12 batters and gave up 11 runs against North Hollywood last week, but Grant (1-2) spotted him a five-run lead in the first two innings against Hollywood and he pitched brilliantly. Jim Mattman and John Kukawaksi each had 2 hits for Grant.

Verdugo Hills 10, North Hollywood 9--Verdugo Hills scored 4 runs in the top of the seventh inning and a last-ditch rally by the Huskies fell short in the East Valley game at North Hollywood.

There were a total of 25 walks and hit batters. “I would say in all my years of coaching that was one of the most frustrating games I’ve ever seen,” North Hollywood Coach Brian York said. “I’m sure the other coach feels the same.”

North Hollywood is 2-1 in league play. Verdugo Hills is 1-2.

Simi Lutheran 7, Villanova 7--Brian Bittner went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs for Simi Lutheran, but the Barons nonleague opener was called because of darkness after five innings.
