Roundup : Grossmont on Winning End of This No-Hitter as Rendina Beats San Dieguito, 18-1

hitters are becoming commonplace for the Grossmont High School baseball team.

The Foothillers were no-hit by Castle Park in their first game of the year Monday.

They came back Wednesday with Mike Rendina’s no-hit victory over San Dieguito, 18-1, at home in the Warhawk tournament. Grossmont improved to 1-1.

Rendina struck out eight and gave up a run in the first inning on an error, walk, sacrifice fly and steal. San Dieguito is 0-1.

Three Foothillers hit home runs: Greg Layson and Mike Ramsay with one on and Donnie O’Brien with the bases empty.

In other Warhawk tournament games:

Point Loma 2, Castle Park 2--Neither team scored until the seventh inning in a game that ended in a tie because of darkness. Point Loma picked up two runs in the top of the seventh on a double by Marcel Brown, a sacrifice fly by David Cipranic, a single by Brett Callan and Sabino Loaiza’s triple. But Point Loma gave them back in the bottom of the inning when pitcher Israel Stanley gave up four walks, including two with the bases loaded.

Orange Glen 7, Sweetwater 7--Juan Price hit his third home run in three games--for three runs in the bottom of the seventh--to force a tie in a game halted by darkness at Sweetwater (2-0-1). Marcos Soto was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs for Orange Glen (2-1-1).

Madison 7, Hoover 2--Down, 2-1, after six innings, Madison scored six runs in the seventh to improve to 2-0. Hoover fell to 0-2.

Kearny 7, Mt. Miguel 7--Steve Fragoso of Kearny hit a grand slam in the second inning in a game that ended in a tie because of darkness.

Valhalla 6, Vista 2--Bobby Runeborg struck out eight to lead Valhalla to the victory at Vista.

Bobby Holtzman went 2 for 2 with 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored to lead Valhalla (2-0). Kris Kjeldsen hit a solo home run for Vista (1-1).
