High School Spring Sports : Campbell Hurls Thousand Oaks to 4-0 Victory
Senior Shireen Campbell shook off a pregame fever and pitched a no-hitter as Thousand Oaks defeated Garden Grove, 4-0, in the Tournament of Champions at Peralta Park in Anaheim on Saturday.
The Lancers (11-6) posted a 3-2 record in the softball tournament.
Campbell (5-5), who had a fever and flu symptoms before the game, struck out six and walked three.
Thousand Oaks scored all of its runs in the fifth. Shani Smyth hit a leadoff home run to left-center field and Phronsie Franco added a two-run shot.
In another softball game:
Newbury Park 1, Millikan 0--Lea Lopez pitched her second no-hitter of the season in the consolation championship of the Tournament of Champions at Canyon.
Lopez (7-2), a sophomore right-hander, struck out seven and did not allow a walk.
BASEBALL
Westlake 7-6, Buena 5-3--Craig Cooper hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning of the second game as host Westlake swept a nonleague doubleheader.
After failing to lay down a bunt on the first two pitches, Cooper swung away and hit the game-winning home run. Chuck Foster hit a three-run homer in the third to put Westlake ahead, 3-2.
In the first game, sophomore left-hander Mike Eby (4-1) struck out 4 and walked 4 in 5 innings to pick up the win.
