South Torrance Wins in Tourney

South Torrance collected a total of 24 hits in two games on Saturday to win the consolation championship of the El Segundo Softball Tournament.
The Spartans (8-5) beat Redondo in the semifinals at Richmond Street School in El Segundo and later defeated Torrance in the finals at Recreation Park, both by 7-2 scores.
Freshman shortstop Gillian Boxx, who was named to the all-tournament team, paced South on the day with five hits in seven at-bats, including three triples and three runs batted in.
Ginger Ales got the pitching win in the first game to improve to 6-4 and sophomore Julie DeJaifre threw a three-hitter in the finals to boost her record to 2-1. South has won seven of its last eight games.
