Granger, Top Softball Pitcher, to Attend Cal

Valencia High School senior Michele Granger, the United States Olympic Committee women’s softball player of the year, will attend California, she announced Monday.

Granger--who holds national high school records for strikeouts (1,407), no-hit games (35), perfect games (8)--made her decision Sunday night, after narrowing her choices to UCLA and Cal. She said she will sign the letter of intent as soon as it arrives in the mail. “It just didn’t get any easier,” she said of her decision. “But some instinct drew me toward Cal. UCLA obviously has a great softball program. But Cal isn’t quite as close to home, yet it’s not thousands and thousands of miles away.”
