Kim Johnson scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 16th inning to give Woodbridge High School a 1-0 victory over Trabuco Hills Thursday in a Pacific Coast League softball game at Woodbridge.

Johnson, a junior, led off the inning with a single to right field and moved to second on a wild pitch by freshman right-hander Marta Bickert. She advanced to third base on an infield single and scored when Bickert’s pitch sailed past catcher Tina Thurnbauer for the only run of the game.

Woodbridge, the top-ranked team in the Southern Section 2-A division, is 18-5 overall, 6-0 in league play. Trabuco Hills is 8-11, 2-4.

Sophomore pitcher Alisha Nelson, in her first start of the season for Woodbridge, struck out 14, walked only 1 and gave up only 2 hits in 16 innings.

“I thought Alisha threw really well,” Woodbridge Coach Kodee Murray said. Murray said she was giving star pitcher Tiffany Boyd a rest Thursday. On Tuesday, Boyd pitched a no-hitter in a 7-0 victory over Laguna Beach. It was her fifth no-hitter of the season. Earlier in the season, Boyd pitched a 2-0 victory over the Trabuco Hills.

Trabuco Hills’ only real threat was in the 13th inning. Bickert reached first on an error and advanced to third when Kathy McNeill reached on a fielder’s choice. But Nelson was able to get out of the inning when she retired Lisa Amato on a fly ball, struck out Thurnbauer and ended the inning by getting Tracy McKee to fly out.

Bickert (8-11) allowed 4 hits and struck out 8.
