Community College Roundup : Klopfer Powers Fullerton Past Compton, 16-5

Rod Klopfer had three hits and six RBIs to lead Fullerton College to a 16-5 victory over Compton in a South Coast Conference baseball game Wednesday at Compton.

Klopfer hit a three-run home run, his 11th, in the third inning. He now has single-season school records in RBIs (50) and runs scored (52) for Fullerton (28-11-1 overall, 11-8 in conference play).

Phil Diplock had four hits, including a home run, and Deryk Hudson had three hits, including two triples, scored three runs and had three RBIs. Shawn Blankenship, Scott Einhorn and Emmitt Cohick had three hits each for Fullerton.

Mark Keifer (10-1) had 10 strikeouts in six innings for the victory.

In South Coast Conference softball:

Fullerton 13, Mt. San Antonio 0--Julie Poulos had three hits, scored three runs and stole three bases and Linda Morales had three hits and five RBIs for host Fullerton (40-9, 16-2).

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Saddleback 6, Riverside 3 (16 innings)--Patti Taylor (32-2) pitched 10 innings of one-hit relief for visiting Saddleback (33-4, 19-1). Marcha Garcia doubled home Taylor, who opened the 16th inning with a single, to break a 3-3 tie.

Cypress 3, Orange Coast 0--Noel Parker and Colleen Moore combined on a one-hitter for host Cypress (27-15, 14-6), and Dee Shephard had a two-run single in the third.

In the Southern California regionals of men’s dual team tennis:

Saddleback 5, Los Angeles Pierce 1--Mark Hansen, Saddleback’s No. 1 singles player, defeated Bill Kearsley, 7-6, 6-3, and No. 2 Ed Peregrino of Saddleback defeated Sang Kim, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. With the victory, Saddleback wins the Southern California dual team championship.
