High School Spring Sports : No-Hitter Gives Thousand Oaks Title
Sophomore Alicia Zinner pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10 as the Thousand Oaks High softball team clinched its first Marmonte League title since 1976 with an 8-0 victory Thursday over Channel Islands at Thousand Oaks.
Zinner (13-1) had a perfect game entering the seventh inning, but she walked leadoff batter Mika Thomas, who was the only baserunner. It was Zinner’s second no-hitter this season.
Phronsie Franco was 3 for 3 for Thousand Oaks and Amy Chellevold was 2 for 4 with a home run and two runs batted in. Kerri Black added two hits and an RBI and Julie Chellevold hit a run-scoring double.
Thousand Oaks, the fifth-ranked team in the Southern Section 4-A Division, finished the regular season 22-7, 10-2 in league play.
Simi Valley and Newbury Park, both 9-3 in Marmonte League play, tied for second and will advance to the playoffs.
Burroughs 2, Burbank 1--Burroughs clinched second place in the Foothill League in a regular-season finale at Burbank.
Burroughs (19-5, 7-3) was down, 1-0, entering the seventh, but winning pitcher Christy Alves led off the inning with a triple and scored on Dana Smock’s one-out bunt single.
Joanna Carr scored the winning run in the eighth on an error. Carr singled, was sacrificed to second and stole third.
Hart 7, Schurr 3--Angie Gorski was 2 for 3 with an RBI as the Foothill League champions won their 11th consecutive game.
Kris Yeates and Danielle Wood each added run-scoring singles and scored two runs for Hart (21-4, 10-0).
Sophomore Kym Weil (20-4) picked up the win.
Moorpark 4, Carpinteria 1--Nana Barrera (11-7) allowed one run on seven hits and did not walk a batter. Barrera also was 2 for 3 with an RBI for Moorpark (11-10, 7-7), which finished fourth in the Tri-Valley League.
La Reina 2, Oak Park 0--Sherri Sisco pitched a no-hitter with three strikeouts and three walks as La Reina (15-4, 12-1) clinched a tie for first place in the Tri-Valley League.
Sisco pitched a no-hitter against Bishop Diego earlier this week.
