Westlake’s Judd Resigns as Coach

Dennis Judd, who has guided his team into the Southern Section playoffs for the second consecutive year, has resigned his post as Westlake High baseball coach, effective at the end of the season.

Judd, 41, will continue to teach at Westlake but said he would like to spend more time with his family. Judd has three children, ages 8, 11 and 13.

“I see my kids growing older and I want to give them some more of my life before they go away,” Judd said moments after his team upset Simi Valley, 4-2, to send the Warriors into the 5-A Division playoffs. “It seems to be the best for everybody.”

He told the team of his intentions Thursday.

Judd, who is 39-35-1 in three seasons at the school, said he had no plans to return to the sport he has coached for 18 years. Before his stint at Westlake, Judd coached at Temple Christian in Ventura for six years and in Wisconsin for nine.
