Share

Montgomery High School’s Alberto Candaleria retired the first 25 batters Thursday, but Sweetwater pushed across an unearned run in the top of the 10th inning to beat him, 1-0, in a Metro Conference baseball game at Montgomery.

Oscar Baltazar’s single with one out in the ninth inning ended Candaleria’s bid for a perfect game. In the 10th, Benjamin Gil singled with one out and Juan Price was hit by a pitch. Jay Peralta replaced Candaleria (0-1) and issued a two-out walk to load the bases. Third baseman Rafael Macias threw away Walter Magallon’s grounder, and Gil scored the only run of the game.

Gil (7-2) pitched a 7-hitter for Sweetwater (14-10-1 overall, 8-3 in league play). Montgomery is 12-8 and 6-5.
