High School Baseball : No. 2 Helix Prevails Over El Capitan, 13-7

Damon Luban allowed just four hits in six innings to improve his record to 10-1 as the second-ranked Helix High defeated El Capitan, 13-7, in Grossmont League baseball action Monday at El Capitan.

Helix (15-0, 22-2) led, 13-1, going into the seventh inning, when El Capitan (4-11) scored six runs off two Helix relievers.

Damon Chase, Dan Tiumalu and Tory Winrow each had three runs batted in for Helix. Spike Mitchell and Chase each hit home runs for Helix.

In other Grossmont League games:

Granite Hills 17, Valhalla 0--Mike Raskind threw a 2-hit shutout and struck out 12 at Granite Hills. Raskind added a two-run homer, Jeff Waymire had four RBIs including a three-run home run and Pete Stacey had three RBIs for Granite Hills, which had 17 hits. Granite Hills is 15-10, 9-7.

Grossmont 11, El Cajon Valley 1--Mike Rendina (7-2) scattered nine hits and struck out eight at El Cajon Valley. Mike Ramsay hit a solo home run, Todd Cady added a two-run homer and Rendina was 2 for 4 with an RBI for second place Grossmont (16-9, 11-4). Chris Holder was 3 for 4 for El Cajon Valley.

Mount Miguel 8, Monte Vista 5--Joe Castillo was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Ed Cervantes hit his first home run of the season for host Mount Miguel. David Sims (2-2) pitched five innings for the victory. Mount Miguel is 8-16, 7-8. Hullfu Johnson had three hits for Monte Vista (5-10, 12-14).
