El Dorado, Hart Are Top-Seeded Baseball Teams

El Dorado High School of Placentia was named the top-seeded team in the 5-A Division for the Southern Section baseball playoffs, which begin with wild-card games today and conclude June 4 at Anaheim Stadium and Blair Field in Long Beach.

In pairings released Monday, Mater Dei of Santa Ana, Millikan of Long Beach and Simi Valley are the other seeded teams in the 5-A.

Hart of Newhall, at 25-0 the only undefeated team in the Southern Section, is No. 1 in the 4-A. The Indians are followed by El Segundo, Upland and Redondo. El Segundo and Redondo are the Pioneer League champion and runner-up, respectively.

In the 3-A, La Quinta of Westminster was named the top-seeded team, with Chino second, California of Whittier third and Saddleback of Santa Ana fourth.

St. Bernard of Playa del Rey, which finished second in the 1-A last season, is listed as the team to beat this year in the 2-A. St. Genevieve of Panorama City is the second-seeded team, with Baldwin Park and Norte Vista of Riverside also rated.

Fillmore was named No. 1 in the 1-A, followed by Tehachapi, Crossroads of Santa Monica, and Aquinas. In Small Schools, it’s Templeton No. 1, Rosamond No. 2, Coast Union of Cambria No. 3 and Pasadena Poly No. 4.

The seeded teams for Southern Section softball, in order:

Gahr of Cerritos, Righetti, Fountain Valley and Edison of Huntington Beach in the 4-A; Kennedy of La Palma, La Mirada, Crescenta Valley and Charter Oak of Covina in the 3-A; Woodbridge of Irvine, San Clemente, Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks and Arroyo of El Monte in the 2-A; St. Joseph of Santa Maria, Paraclete, La Sierra of Riverside and La Reina of Thousand Oaks in the 1-A; and Leffingwell Christian of Norwalk, Ramona Convent of Alhambra, Pasadena Poly and Bel-Air Prep in the Small Schools.

Wild-card games will be played Wednesday, the first round is Thursday and Friday, and the finals are set for June 3 and 4 at Mayfair Park in Lakewood.
