The Palisades High volleyball team won its third City Section 4-A Division title in four years, beating Chatsworth, 16-14, 15-8, 11-15, 15-8, Friday at UCLA’s Wooden Center in a 2-hour, 40-minute match.
The Chancellors, City titlists in 1984, have lost four consecutive championship matches. Palisades won titles in 1985-86.
Chatsworth took leads of 12-9 and 14-11 in the first game, but Palisades scored five consecutive points to win. Paul Garrett, the Dolphins’ 6-9 middle blocker, had three kills and Chatsworth committed two errors in Palisades’ run.
Palisades jumped to a 9-2 lead in the second game on the hitting of Garrett and the sloppy play of the Chancellors. Chatsworth scored six consecutive points but Palisades scored the game’s last six points.
The Chancellors scored 11 of the last 12 points to win the third game, but after leading, 4-2, in the fourth, Chatsworth let the game, and the match, slip away.
