Southern Section Tennis Playoffs : Westlake Beats El Toro Minus a Key Player

The Westlake High tennis team, playing without its No. 2 singles player, defeated El Toro, 14-4, in a 4-A Division quarterfinal match Tuesday at the Westlake Village Raquet Club. Rob Light, the Warriors’ No. 2 singles player, is suffering from the chicken pox.

Darin Pleasant and the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams swept their matches for Westlake (18-4), the second-seeded team in the 4-A. Pleasant won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0. The No. 1 doubles team of Todd Robinson and Mike Studebaker won, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, and the No. 2 team of Mark Kapczynski and Kelly Bumbarger won, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 6-2.

Westlake plays Foothill, an 11-7 winner over Calabasas, on Thursday.

Harvard d. Webb, 18-0--Sam Salant and Erik Chan each shut out two opponents and the No. 2 doubles team of Justin Lu and Raj Vaswani swept its matches, 6-0, 6-2, 6-3, as the Saracens won a 1-A quarterfinal match at Webb.

Harvard, the No. 2-seeded team, improved to 18-3 and will play Brentwood, a 16-2 winner over Whitney.
