San Fernando 6, Carson 5--Pinch-runner Brent Huff scored from second base on two wild pickoff throws as host San Fernando rallied for the winning run in the sixth inning of the 4-A first-round game.

Carson rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score, 5-5, but that only set the stage for Huff’s error-fueled dash home in the bottom of the inning.

Rudy Sanchez reached first on an error and took second on a wild throw. Huff, running for Sanchez, went to third when pitcher Tim Vasquez’s pickoff throw went into center field, then scored when the relay from center flew over third.

San Fernando’s Josh Bergara was 3 for 4 and had one RBI and one stolen base.

Banning 7, Grant 5--Javier Delahoya walked eight batters and Grant committed four errors and left 11 men on base in the first-round 4-A playoff game at Banning.

Delahoya (7-3), a junior, struck out five batters and allowed four hits but five of the seven runs he allowed were unearned.

Trailing, 6-1, in the sixth inning, Grant narrowed the deficit to one run with a two-out, four-run rally. The Lancers had only two hits, but two walks and two errors aided their cause.
