Girls’ Athletes of the Week : TRACK

Sorii Epps of Patrick Henry High School captured the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at Saturday’s CIF San Diego Section track and field championships at Balboa Stadium.

Epps, a junior, won the 100 in 12.62 seconds and the 200 in 25.81.

Laura Hughes of Orange Glen broke this year’s county bests in the shotput and discus to win at the section meet.

Hughes threw the shot 43 feet 10 inches and the discus 134-1.

SOFTBALL

Tori Spiekerman pitched three shutouts, the last a 4-hitter as Fallbrook beat Madison, 2-0, to win the section 3-A championship Saturday at Helix.

Spiekerman, a senior, pitched 14 hitless innings to beat Grossmont, 1-0, Thursday. She threw a 4-hitter as Fallbrook beat Patrick Henry, 2-0, in the quarterfinals last Tuesday.
