Bob Hawking, who resigned last week as basketball coach at Simi Valley High, will be named as an assistant coach today at Pepperdine, sources close to the program said Tuesday night.

Hawking, who led Simi Valley to the Southern Section 4-A Division title this season, will accept a part-time position, according to the sources, who requested anonymity.

Hawking did not return phone calls Tuesday night.

The addition of Hawking, 38, completes the coaching staff for Tom Asbury of Newbury Park, a longtime Pepperdine assistant who took over in April after Jim Harrick accepted the job at UCLA.

Asbury previously had hired Bob Williams, 35, the former coach at Menlo College, and David Campbell, 29, a former assistant at Weber State and St. Mary’s.

Hawking, who compiled at 230-119 record in 14 years at Simi Valley, will remain at the school in a teaching capacity. Dean Bradshaw, who had coached the Simi Valley junior varsity for the past six seasons, was elevated to varsity coach Monday.

Hawking led Simi Valley to the Marmonte League title the past three seasons. The Pioneers won 81 of 90 games during that span.
