Notre Dame High has named Ron Lohse as the new coach of the girls’ basketball team, replacing Rob DiMuro, who resigned after three seasons to take a position on the football coaching staff at Alemany.

Lohse, 34, who has coached several area youth teams, will teach mathematics at Notre Dame, according to Athletic Director Kevin Rooney.

“He’s a quality guy,” Rooney said. “He’s been involved with youth and club teams all over. He knows the ropes.”

The Knights (10-11 overall) tied for third in the San Fernando Valley League with a 5-5 record last season under DiMuro but lost a league tiebreaker to Louisville and did not qualify for the Southern Section playoffs.

Lohse will have a solid nucleus of players with which to work. Times’ All-Valley center Andrea Banducci returns along with letter-winners Louisa Parra, Kim Fisher and Paula Rojas.

DiMuro, who served as quarterback and linebacker coach for the Notre Dame junior varsity, will coach the freshman football team at Alemany.
