La Canada Advances in L. A. Games

Even with 6-foot, 7-inch center Chad Givens, the La Canada High basketball team was a long-shot to survive the first weekend of the L. A. Games. Then when Givens went down with a sprained ankle, the Spartans’ chances looked even dimmer.
But the hole in the middle only served to inspire La Canada, which won three games to advance to the round of 16 this weekend.
La Canada opened with a 41-34 win over Jefferson on Saturday.
