After a monthlong scramble to fill its boys’ basketball coaching position, Alemany High on Friday named Glendale College women’s Coach Bill Moore to succeed Joe Anlauf, who resigned last month.

Moore emerged from a group of finalists that included Mike Miller of Cathedral, Wayne Fluker of Monroe and Ron Cooper of Buckley, according to Alemany Athletic Director Dudley Rooney. All three are coaches of boys’ teams.

Moore takes over for Anlauf, who, after five years at Alemany, resigned last month to pursue a career as a commercial realtor.

Anlauf compiled a career mark of 58-52. His best season was 1986 when the Indians finished 18-7 and won the Del Rey League title with an 11-1 league mark. Last year, Alemany was 8-14 and 4-8 in league play.

Moore is one of several new faces at Alemany. In the past nine months, the school has hired varsity coaches in track and cross-country and football.
