Bryan Dameworth and Deena Drossin of Agoura High will attempt to defend their titles in the Ventura County cross-country championships at Moorpark College today.

Dameworth, the defending state Division I champion, will be challenged by Thousand Oaks’ Mike Williamson, who handed Dameworth his first loss of the season in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational in Walnut last Saturday.

Williamson won the team sweepstakes race at Mt. SAC with a time of 15 minutes, 1 second over the challenging 3-mile course. Dameworth placed third in 15:11.

Camarillo teammates Shawn Goetzinger and Abe Valdez, sixth (15:28) and eighth (15:34) at Mt. SAC, are expected to lead the Scorpions to their second consecutive county title. The boys’ varsity race begins at 4:30 p.m.

Drossin, the defending state Division I champion, and teammate Tiffany York placed 1-2 in last year’s county championships and are expected to battle for first place again while leading the Chargers to their second consecutive team title.

That race begins at 4.

York and Drossin finished fourth (18:51) and fifth (18:56) in the girls’ team sweepstakes race at Mt. SAC.
