LA MIRADA — The Biola University forensics team placed first among the 41 colleges and universities competing in the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Assn. fall championship tournament held recently at Los Angeles Pierce College.
Counting team and individual awards, Biola won 24 trophies at the 3-day tournament, bringing its total number of awards to 80 for the last 2 months and setting a school seasonal record.
One of Biola’s programs receiving critical acclaim for excellence was the Reader’s Theatre presentation of “In Heaven’s Eyes.” The troupe received unanimous first-place votes from all six judges in the semifinal and final rounds of competition, according to Todd Lewis, Biola’s director of forensics.
With the hope of qualifying more students for the national tournament in April, Biola debaters will next compete in the USC tournament Dec. 29 and 30. So far, three Biolans have earned their way to the nationals, to be held at North Dakota State University.
