Defensive back Deion Sanders of Florida State, who led the nation in punt returns, was named one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award for the nation’s best defensive back. Arkansas safety Steve Atwater and Florida free safety Louis Oliver are the other finalists for the award, to be presented by the Jim Thorpe Club on Jan. 10.
