A last-second 3-point shot by Chris Quirmbach ricocheted off the rim as Simi Valley was edged by Chaparral, 73-70, in the third-place game of the Sundevil tournament in Las Vegas.

The desperation shot was set up when Chaparral missed a free throw that would have put the game out of reach with 5 seconds to play. Simi Valley got the defensive rebound, Quirmbach drove to the top of the key and let fly.

Guard Steve Carnes scored a team-high 24 points and teammate Dennis Cook added 14 in the losing effort. The Pioneers are 4-4.
