Boys’ Basketball Roundup : El Modena Starters Productive in Victory Over Brea-Olinda

Robbie Pietrsch and John Darrow scored 23 points each to lead El Modena High School to an 81-66 victory over Brea-Olinda in a nonleague boys’ basketball game Friday at El Modena.

Greg Gottlieb added 13 points, Jeff Leedom 12 and Ramsey Rycraw 10 as all five El Modena starters scored in double figures.

Keith Walker scored 28 for Brea-Olinda (5-5). El Modena is 8-2.

In other nonleague boys’ basketball:

Canyon 64, Katella 61--Senior center Bryan Van Noy made both ends of a 1-and-1 with 15 seconds left as Canyon won at home. The free throws gave Canyon a 62-58 lead. Van Noy had a game-high 22 points, and John Hutchinson added 12. Brian Yourstone scored 21 for Katella.

In the Bosco Tech tournament:

Santa Ana Valley 73, Los Angeles 61--Court Bickmore scored a game-high 25 points to lead Santa Ana Valley in the third-place game at Bosco Tech in Rosemead. Los Angeles led, 32-24, at the half, but the Falcons (7-4) rallied to take a 36-35 lead at the end of three quarters.

Chuck Steen added 19 and Bryan Singleton 15 for Santa Ana Valley.

In the Hawaiian Kamehameha Invitational:

Irvine 76, Warren 52--Bryan Allread scored game-high 19 points to lead Irvine (9-1) in the consolation championship game.
