High School Boys’ Basketball : DEL REY LEAGUE

Crespi 68, St. Francis 59--Third-quarter defense decided the game: Crespi (7-8, 2-1) had it, St. Francis (10-7, 1-2) did not.

During the pivotal quarter, Crespi’s man-to-man defense forced 5 turnovers to break open the game. On offense, Crespi consistently broke the St. Francis press and created easy shots. Four three-point baskets by Alan Freeman also kept Crespi’s perimeter offense going throughout the contest. Crespi’s Chris McGee had 9 assists.

MARMONTE LEAGUE

Royal 67, Newbury Park 66--Chris Moriarty converted 2 free throws with 5 seconds left, climaxing the Highlanders’ 5-point rally in the final 1:39 at Royal. Tim Lane had a chance to win the game for Newbury Park but failed to hit an 18-foot shot at the buzzer.

Russell Myers scored a team-high 22 points and had 13 rebounds for Royal (7-10, 2-3). J. P. Ouellette added 15 points and had 7 assists.

Wayne Cook led the Panthers (10-5, 1-3) with 29 points and sophomore Chris Falzone added 15.

Camarillo 66, Thousand Oaks 62--Jeff Castellanos made 2 free throws with 12 seconds left to clinch the win for Camarillo (12-3, 4-0). With leading scorer David Harbour sidelined because of a sprained ankle, Camarillo outscored the Lancers, 36-31, in the second half in the come-from-behind win.

The Scorpions’ Frank Dews scored a game-high 24 points and had 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Jason Hunt added 13 points for Camarillo and Scott Foster had 10 points and 6 rebounds.

FOOTHILL LEAGUE

Hart 72, San Gabriel 47--Micah Ohlman scored 16 points and Brett Wilson added 14 to keep Hart (9-7, 3-0) unbeaten in Foothill League play. Chad Fotheringham added 13 points off the bench, and Dan Lent-Koop scored 5 points and had a team-high 8 rebounds.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY LEAGUE

Notre Dame 80, St. Genevieve 70--Brian Jones scored 29 points and Kenny Hicks added 22 for the Knights at St. Genevieve. Notre Dame (8-8, 3-0) had 4 players in double figures, including Reggie Dominique with 12 points and 7 steals and Mike Rimkunas with 10 points. Mike Cassidy led the Valiants (8-6, 1-2) with 25 points and 11 assists.

Bell-Jeff 66, Chaminade 53--Nick Sanderson scored 9 of his 25 points in the third quarter to lead the Guards (15-1, 3-0) at Chaminade. Leading, 31-27, at halftime, Bell-Jeff outscored the Eagles, 18-5, in the third quarter as Greg Dunn added 6 of his 18 points. Ray Witt had 12 for Bell-Jeff.

Chris Bruckner had 29 points and 10 rebounds for Chaminade (6-7, 1-2) and Colin Havert had 14.

ALPHA LEAGUE

Montclair Prep 58, Maranatha 48--Freshman Chris Sanger scored 6 of his 10 points in the third quarter to lead a Mountie rally at Montclair Prep. Trailing, 31-24, at halftime, the Mounties (13-5, 2-1) outscored Maranatha (4-11, 1-2) in the third quarter, 16-7. Montclair Prep made 12 of 21 free throws but converted 23 of 40 field-goal attempts.

Jason Gerber led the Mounties with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate Mike Harris added 12 points.

NORTHWEST VALLEY CONFERENCE

Granada Hills 63, San Fernando 61--Joey Rosas made 2 free throws with 6 seconds left to lift the Highlanders at home. Granada Hills (10-4, 2-1) went into a stall in the final 2 minutes with the score tied, 61-61, before Rosas was fouled. Rosas, who scored a team-high 18 points, made 8 of 9 free throws.

Alvin Brown added 16 points and 9 rebounds for Granada Hills and Jamal Brantley had 12 points. Sean Williams and Lance Whitaker each had 13 points for the Tigers (7-8, 1-2).

Kennedy 58, Canoga Park 26--Randy Brown and Garret Anderson each had 18 points to lead the Golden Cougars (9-4, 2-1) at home. Sean Reyes had 13 for the Hunters (2-10, 0-3.)

VALLEY PAC-8 CONFERENCE

North Hollywood 81, Sylmar 47--Junior Dana Jones scored a career-high 25 points and had 14 rebounds, 7 steals and 6 blocked shots to pace the Huskies (8-4, 3-0) at Sylmar (3-6, 1-2). Jones, who connected on 12 of 18 field-goal attempts, got help from Harry Marks, who scored 21 points and had 8 assists, and Ray Fisher, who had 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals and 7 assists.

Grant 58, Van Nuys 38--Sean Watkins scored 16 points, Nate Conner had 15 and Troy Mcleod added 14 to lead the Lancers (10-3, 2-1) at Grant. Watkins and Mcleod each had 8 in the first half when Grant outscored Van Nuys, 32-21. Watkins had 9 rebounds and Mcleod had 8. Setro Terzian had a team-high 15 rebounds.

Poly 93, Monroe 68--John Bruner scored all of his 18 points in the first half and Scott Cooper took over in the second half, scoring 20 of his game-high 22 points after intermission for Poly (7-6, 2-1).
