Girls’ Basketball Roundup : Orange Lutheran Scores an Upset

Devon Koster, a 6-foot 2-inch center, scored 20 points and had 15 rebounds to lead the Orange Lutheran High School girls’ basketball team to a 41-35 Olympic League upset of Valley Christian Saturday night at Orange Lutheran.

It was the first Olympic League loss for Valley Christian since 1984.

Orange Lutheran was held scoreless in the third quarter, and trailed, 31-21, going into the fourth. But the Lancers (10-16 overall, 6-4 in league play) outscored Valley Christian, 20-4, in the final quarter for the victory.

Jennifer Zylstra had 13 points for Valley Christian (9-1 in league play).

In the Sunset League:

Marina 63, Westminster 39--Melisa Sortino (20 points), Lisa Orosco (10 points), and Kristy Sparks (12 rebounds and 8 steals) led Marina (16-5, 4-2) at home. Julie Ann Johnston scored a game-high 22 points, including 5 3-pointers, for Westminster (2-15, 0-6).

Fountain Valley 45, Ocean View 40--With the victory, Coach Carol Strausburg won the 200th game of her 11-year career at Fountain Valley. Rene Lambringger and Yvette Ybarra scored 10 points each to lead Fountain Valley (15-7, 5-1).

Edison 59, Huntington Beach 36--Krisden Tanabe scored 20 points, Debbie Fischer 15 and Stephanie Moorman 10 to lead the Chargers (10-9, 3-3). Jennifer Ambrose paced Huntington Beach (3-14, 1-5) with 11 points.

In a nonleague game:

Valencia 48, La Habra 43--Valencia (13-8) trailed, 26-21, at halftime, but outscored La Habra, 15-7, in the third quarter.
