Girls’ Basketball Roundup : Sonora Scores 46-45 Double-Overtime Victory Over Sunny Hills

Thalia Polley made a 15-foot jump shot with 12 seconds left to give Sonora High School a 46-45 victory over Sunny Hills in two overtimes Tuesday.

The game was tied at 40-40 at the end of regulation and 42-42 after the first overtime period.

Lorene Rudisell scored 15 points to lead Sonora (6-11 overall, 3-4 in Freeway League play). Sunny Hills is 3-14, 0-7.

In another Freeway League game:

Fullerton 65, Troy 49--Sommer McLane scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Fullerton (12-6, 6-1) in a home-court win. Jennifer Comstock added 11 points. Troy’s Kenwyn Richards scored 21 points. Fullerton led 38-26 at halftime.

In the Academy League:

Liberty Christian 47, Newport Christian 36--Jan Caruso scored 18 points and Sharon Crouch had 12 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists to lead Liberty Christian (13-4, 6-0) at home.

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 62, Rosary 34--Kelly O’Brien had 19 points and 15 rebounds, Cori Martin had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Krisha Thompson had 11 points and 8 steals to lead Mater Dei (17-5, 7-0) at home. Diane Wiskus had 18 points to lead Rosary.

In the Century League:

Canyon 58, Santa Ana Valley 44--Keri Erkenbrack scored 32 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Canyon (16-4, 7-0) at Santa Ana Valley. Francesca Rumps had 19 points for the Falcons.

Foothill 47, Villa Park 26--Tanya Foxe scored 15 points and had 7 rebounds and Stacia Allen had 12 to lead Foothill (13-8, 6-1) at home. Villa Park is 6-11 overall, 2-5 in league play.

Santa Ana 41, El Modena 27--Michelle Bradshaw’s 13 points and 8 rebounds led Santa Ana (9-9, 2-5) to victory at home. Jamie Flynn led winless El Modena with 11 points.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 54, El Dorado 29--Cypress was led by Erica Manning’s 21 points in the victory at El Dorado. Chrissy Nieman led El Dorado (5-15, 0-7) with 10 points. Cypress led 14-7 at halftime.

Katella 58, Esperanza 46--Joanie Easterly scored 24 points, Angie Gomez had 12 and Margaret Harker 10 to lead Katella at Esperanza. Kim Kordik had 11 points to lead Esperanza.

Loara 53, Los Alamitos 38--Heidi Sorour scored 21 points and Kim Yoshioka 10 to lead Loara (15-9, 5-2) at home. Melinda Armstrong scored 17 points for Los Alamitos.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 47, Ontario Christian 39--Kim Klatt scored 19 points, including 3 3-pointers, to lead Orange Lutheran (11-6, 7-4) at Ontario.

Valley Christian 67, Capistrano Valley Christian 22--Carrie Shannon had 16 points for Capistrano Valley Christian (5-13, 1-10) at home.

Whittier Christian 64, Santa Margarita 53--Kristin Mulligan scored a game-high 28 points and had 14 steals and 10 rebounds for Santa Margarita (10-6, 5-6).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 54, Savanna 48--Tammy Blackburn scored 17 points and Jinnelle Williams had 16 to lead Brea (19-2, 7-0) at home. The Wildcats had to play without Aimee McDanniel, who has missed 2 of the last 3 games with shin splints.

Lisa Rios scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds, and Carrie Fredrick, a 5-foot 3-inch sophomore guard, had 9 points, 8 assists and 10 rebounds to lead Savanna (14-7, 4-3).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Woodbridge 85, Laguna Hills 27--Leslie Rathmun scored 24 points and had 11 steals and Lisa Wehren had 20 points to lead Woodbridge (17-5, 7-0) at home.

Orange 52, Laguna Beach 47--Nicole Champion scored 15 points to lead Orange (12-7, 5-2), and Kelly Madden scored 8 points, including 6 clutch baskets in the fourth quarter to lift Orange. Liz Stal scored a game-high 31 points and had 13 rebounds to lead Laguna Beach (8-9, 2-5).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 54, Fountain Valley 50--After trailing throughout the game, including a 30-21 halftime deficit, Fountain Valley pulled to a 50-50 tie on its home court, but couldn’t quite pull this one out. Debbie Fischer and Kristen Tanabe each scored 17 points for Edison; Stacey Hisaka and Julie Workman each had 13 for Fountain Valley (15-8, 5-2).

Ocean View 73, Westminster 25--Ocean View (21-3, 6-1) won at Westminster behind Jenny Sullivan’s 21 points and 15 rebounds. Teammate Cossette Smith added 13 points and 10 assists.

Marina 78, Huntington Beach 46--Melisa Sortino scored 27 points, Christa Yorke scored 12 and Allison Krause had 10 points and 9 assists to lead Marina (17-5, 5-2).
