Cal Poly Pomona Comes Out Cold After Halftime and Chapman Rolls

Cal Poly Pomona’s poor second-half shooting helped Chapman College run away with a 97-71 California Collegiate Athletic Assn. victory Thursday night Pomona’s Poly Pavilion. Chapman forward Russ Ortega led all scorers with 27 points
The Broncos made only 12 of 40 shots from the field in the second half. Chapman made 18 of 30 attempts in the same period. Rog Middleton had 16 points and Bryan Richetto 15 for the Panthers.
Chapman (12-10 overall, 5-4 in conference play) never surrendered the lead it took when Dean Balcao made a three-pointer with 18:13 remaining in the first half to put the Panthers ahead, 5-4. Pomona is 6-15, 0-9.
