Roundup : Home Runs Help Cypress Gain Today’s Final in Own Event

Jason Friedman, Doug Yates and Mike Neal hit home runs to help the Cypress College baseball team defeat Golden West, 11-1, Saturday in the Cypress tournament.
Friedman hit a three-run home run in the fourth, and Yates followed with a solo homer as Cypress took a 4-0 lead. Neal hit his homer in the seventh.
Dennis Burbank, a sophomore transfer from Pepperdine, pitched eight innings, allowing a run and getting eight strikeouts for the victory.
Cypress moved into the championship game Monday at 2 p.m. at Cypress. Citrus and El Camino play today at 10 a.m., and the winner plays at Golden West at 2 p.m. for the right to play Cypress for the title.
In men’s tennis:
Saddleback 8, UC Santa Barbara JV 1--No. 1 singles player Carl Hinds swept UCSB’s Mike Boice, a former No. 1 player from Saddleback, 6-3, 6-2, at UC Santa Barbara.
