Morningside center Lisa Leslie, a 6-5 junior, had a quadruple double--31 points, 23 rebounds, 10 assists and 11 blocked shots--to lead the top-ranked Lady Monarchs over Glendale, 68-37, in the Southern Section 5-AA girls basketball playoffs.

Senior forward Shawn Foster scored 29 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and scored off a steal with a minute to play to lift El Segundo to a 73-70 upset of top-seeded Cabrillo in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section 2-AA playoffs.

The Joe Bravos Senior softball team from Lawndale, defending world champion, recently won a 20-team competition in New Mexico. The team has captured 200 tournament titles since 1985.

The El Camino College women’s basketball team capped one of its best seasons by qualifying for the state playoffs.

Narbonne ended the basketball season with a 3-18 record after being blown out by top-seeded Manual Arts, 97-47, in the first round of the L.A. City 4-A playoffs. The Gauchos, last-place finishers in the Pacific League, were granted a postseason berth after the section decided to allow all 16 4-A Division teams into the playoffs.

Gardena, last-place team from the Southern League, fell in the first round of the L.A. City 4-A playoffs to No. 2-seeded Cleveland, 87-59, to finish with an 11-13 record. In two games against Cleveland this season, the Mohicans were outscored by a total of 80 points.

Sportswork, an Inglewood advertising company, failed to sign a sponsor for broadcasts of the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. postseason basketball tournament and told the conference this week that the deal was off.
