Loyola Women’s Best Basketball Season to End
The Loyola Marymount University women’s basketball team will close out the season this weekend at Gersten Pavilion against Santa Clara tonight and San Francisco on Saturday. Both games begin at 7:30.
The Lions, enjoying their most successful season at 16-10, are in third place in the West Coast Athletic Conference, trailing St. Mary’s and Gonzaga by two games at 8-4.
Santa Clara, 7-18 and 3-8, and USF, 6-18 and 2-9, are at the bottom of the eight-team WCAC.
The Lions are coming off a stunning 65-59 upset of Gonzaga in Spokane, Gonzaga’s first conference loss at home in three years. Lynn Flanagan leads a balanced Loyola attack at 11.3 points per game, followed by Kristen Bruich at 10.6 and Tricia Gibson at 10.3.
Santa Clara is led by guard Jennifer Lucas at 14.7 points, and forward Ann Corbett, who set a WCAC record last week with a 21-rebound game. USF features guard Alice Solis (13.7 average) and forward Joy Boyenga (12.3)
