Tracy Murray of Glendora High School and Terry Cannon of L.A. Crenshaw were among 24 prep athletes named players of the year at The Times’ high school basketball banquet Sunday in the Anaheim Hilton.

The banquet honored the boys’ and girls’ all-star teams for each of The Times’ 12 circulation areas, with the selection of a player and coach of the year. Former professional basketball player George Yardley, the first man in the National Basketball Assn. to score 2,000 points, was the guest speaker.

Murray, a 6-foot-8 senior, was named player of the year in the San Gabriel Valley area. He is the state-career (3,053 points) and single-season (1,505) scoring leader. Cannon, who led Crenshaw to its fourth state Division I title this season, was named the Central City player of the year.
