IN BRIEF : Denver Grand Prix Gets Green Light
City Council members voted early today to approve plans for a Denver Grand Prix that will bring Indy-car racing to the city’s downtown area in 1990.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m., council members approved promoter Andy Shlenker’s proposal for the Championship Auto Racing Teams-sanctioned event on a 9-2 vote, with two members absent.
Shlenker’s proposal will require the city to spend $3.2 million over five years, including $1.4 million for paving on the race circuit and $200,000 for police, fire and emergency services in the first year.
