Little League baseball will open its program to physically and mentally disabled children. The new Challenger Division was revealed at the youth baseball organization’s 18th international congress in Williamsport, Pa., along with a program designed to combat drug and alcohol problems.

“Little League is not just a bat and a ball,” said Creighton J. Hale, president and chief executive officer. “It’s not a score showing a loser. It extends beyond that because of our concern for the well-being of the children.”
