LOCAL : Antelope Valley Blaze Contained
A brush fire that burned more than 2,000 acres of mostly rugged terrain in the Antelope Valley this week was completely contained by firefighters this morning, authorities said.
U.S. Forest Service spokesman Robert Brady said 100% containment of the fire was achieved at 8 a.m. All Los Angeles County firefighters were then released from the fire lines and a crew of 95 Forest Service firefighters were left to mop up.
The fire claimed 2,250 acres of land along the outskirts of Elizabeth Lake and Green Valley. Three structures were burned including one home, and more than 1,000 people were forced to temporarily evacuate on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, firefighters got the upper hand today on an 8,200-acre brush fire in Cleveland National Forest that destroyed 10 homes near Lake Elsinore in Riverside County, and they expected to have the blaze encircled by 6 p.m. Aided by lighter winds and higher humidity, fire crews had more than 70% of the blaze surrounded this morning.
