Graves Rallies Santa Ann Valley Past Foothill, 15-7

Santa Ana Valley High School came alive offensively in the second half and defeated Foothill, 15-7, in a Century League football game at Santa Ana Stadium Friday.

Santa Ana Valley scored all its points in the second half and junior quarterback Gary Graves played a part in most of them.

Graves ran for 121 yards in 16 carries, had one touchdown and passed 41 yards to wide receiver Scottie Strong for another score.

Santa Ana Valley improved to 3-4-1 overall and 2-1 in league play. Foothill is 4-4 and 2-1.

Graves completed 8 of 13 passes for 134 yards. Four of the completions were to Strong for a total of 88 yards.

While the Santa Ana Valley offense was on a roll, its defense shut out Foothill in the second half.

“Defense has always been our strong point,” Santa Ana Valley Coach Dan Castanon said. “As long as we play good defense, we have an opportunity to win.”
