Whittier Christian High School did more than seal a 10-0 regular season with its 41-21 Olympic League victory Saturday at Miraleste.

It also served notice to Division IX playoff opponents that there is more to Whittier Christian’s offense than fullback Ron Papazian.

Tailback Scott Jordan rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns in 31 carries. Alex Davila caught five passes from Nick Sanchez for 109 yards and three touchdowns.

“You can try to shut down Ron,” Whittier Christian Coach Phil Bravo said, “but then you’ve also got to shut down Scott and the rest of the guys. That can be tough.”

Miraleste’s defense swarmed over Papazian, holding him to 77 yards in 22 carries. But Papazian did score his 29th touchdown of the season for Whittier Christian (6-0 Olympic League) on a three-yard plunge in the fourth quarter. The touchdown put him in a fifth-place tie on the all-time county list with Esperanza’s Steve Morford (1982). Jim Farrell of Esperanza set the county mark for touchdowns in a season in 1984, with 32.

Miraleste is 5-4 overall and 3-3 in league play.
