Royal Ties School Mark for Victories

Royal High’s 69-68 win over Thousand Oaks in overtime Monday gave the Highlanders a 14-3 record and tied the school mark for wins in a season.

Royal was 14-10 in 1971-72, the last season in which the Highlanders had a winning record.

Scoring: Four players for both Burroughs and Hart are averaging in double figures. Burroughs center Ray Velasquez and Hart guard Micah Ohlman each are averaging 18.9 points.

For Burroughs, guards S. J. Boldvich (12.9 points) and Marnie Calderon (12.7), and forward Doug Castaneda (10.8) also are scoring in double figures. For Hart, center Chad Fotheringham (13.1), and forwards Renato Rivas (12.1) and Marty Downen (11.5) are averaging in double figures.

Three Antelope Valley players--forwards Chris Walters (20.1) and Jabbar Briggs (10.4) and guard Brock Chase (10.1)--are averaging in double figures. Center John Pletsch is averaging 9.8 points.

After averaging 12 points in his first 11 games, Kennedy center Josh Etting scored 24 and 20 points last week in two games.

Shooting: Crescenta Valley, which had made no more than 37% of its shots from the field in the past five games, shot 50% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line Friday in a 65-64 overtime win at Hoover. “We finally played ball,” Coach John Goffredo said. “We were impostors the last three weeks.”
