ORANGE LEAGUE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Savanna Beats Valencia in Triple OT

Savanna High School defeated Valencia, 57-54, in a triple overtime Orange League boys’ basketball game Friday night at Savanna.

Savanna (13-7 overall, 3-1 in league play) trailed by 12 points at one point in the third quarter, but took a three-point lead late in the fourth quarter. But Valencia’s Jason Bae hit a three-pointer with five seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 43-43 and send it into overtime.

Each team scored seven points in the first overtime and two in the second overtime. With the score tied at 52, guard Ben Smith of Savanna hit a three-pointer off the opening tip of the third overtime. Smith added another basket for Savanna in the final period. Guard Richard Tibbie of Valencia (7-12, 1-3) scored 29 points.

Brea-Olinda 74, Magnolia 52--Senior forward Keith Walker scored 44 points, half of them on 22-of-24 free-throw shooting, to lead Brea-Olinda (16-3, 4-0). In the second quarter, Walker scored 16 points, 14 of them from the free-throw line. Robbie Hargis scored 17 points for Magnolia.

Western 67, Anaheim 48--Junior forward Robbie Shelton scored 30 points, had 18 rebounds and four assists to lead Western (12-5, 3-1) at home. Tom Barraza scored 17 for Western, which was 25 of 37 from the free-throw line. Anaheim, which had four players foul out, was eight of 14 from the line. Victor Zamrano had 16 for Anaheim (6-9, 1-3).
