Michael Olajide, a middleweight, filed suit against the New York State Athletic Commission seeking to overturn a split-decision loss to Dennis Milton.
The commission’s ruling on Dec. 15 upheld the result of the fight Dec. 1 at Albany, N.Y. A stay was granted in State Supreme Court, withholding the commission’s decision and leaving Olajide’s record at 27-2, pending a full review by the court.
Olajide, who is supposed to fight Thomas Hearns in April, thought he had stopped Milton with a few seconds remaining in the final round of the scheduled 10-round bout.
A tape showed referee Ken Zimmer stopping the fight with Milton in trouble. Zimmer said he acted because he thought he heard the bell ring ending fight.
Milton was ahead on two of the three official cards and was awarded the decision.
