St. Francis Draws San Marcos in Quarterfinal Soccer Match

St. Francis High’s Southern Section 3-A Division boys’ soccer quarterfinal playoff match has been postponed from today until Saturday to allow the Golden Knights’ opponent, San Marcos, a day of rest.

San Marcos defeated Millikan, 3-2, Thursday at Santa Barbara High, the second time the teams had played in two days. The Southern Section nullified Millikan’s 3-2 overtime win Wednesday, ruling that the officiating of Charles McKay, a longtime substitute teacher at Millikan, provided a conflict of interest.

Scott Cathcart, Southern Section director of media and public relations, said he believed it was the first time that a Southern Section event was replayed.

“San Marcos traveled in good faith and did not receive the best of services as it relates to integrity of CIF Southern Section championship activity,” Commissioner Stan Thomas said in a prepared statement. “Therefore it was determined practical to provide an alternate site in the San Marcos area for the replay of the contest.”

St. Francis will play host to San Marcos at 3 p.m.
