The University of San Diego defeated host Long Beach State, 8-1, in a nonconference match, and improved its record to 6-2. Long Beach State is 4-3.
Winning in the top singles positions for the Toreros were: Jose Luis Noriega, J.R. Edwards and Christ Toomey. Noriega defeated Derek Farren, 6-1, 6-1; Edwards was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Vince Mackey, and Chris Toomey defeated Bill Pham, 6-1, 6-3.
USD swept all three doubles. Its only loss was in No. 6 singles.
