HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Grossmont Wins, Remains Undefeated

John Tatum hit a two-run single and Jim Earley a two-run double as Grossmont remained undefeated with an 11-4 nonleague victory over Montgomery Thursday.

Grossmont (11-0), which is averaging 10 runs a game, scored six unearned runs in the fourth. Toddy Cady went three for three with three RBIs and scored a run. Danny Lennon (4-0) got the victory. Mike Dorame and Luis Contreras hit home runs for Montgomery (6-3).

In other nonleague games:

Mira Mesa 4, Madison 2--Senior Jason McElveny led off with a home run for Madison (4-5) but was also the losing pitcher. Mira Mesa remained undefeated (10-0).

Carlsbad 4, Rancho Buena Vista 0--Bryan Black hit his fourth homer, for three runs, to cap a four-run fifth inning for Carlsbad (6-5).

Hilltop 7, Ramona 2--Jose Silva had 14 strikeouts and scattered six hits for host Hilltop (5-3). Ramona is 2-6-1.

Valhalla 5, Vista 4--Valhalla (7-5) scored the tying run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh, and Scott Lapinski’s single drove in Jim May with the game-winner. Tom Giglio and Eric Nielsen combined for a three-hitter.

Granite Hills 9, Hood River (Ore.) 4--Granite Hills (6-2) got a three-run double from Tom Fordham in a six-run third inning. Ryan O’Coyne and Tom Koontz each had two hits and two RBIs. Hood River is 1-3 on its San Diego tour.

El Camino 17, Milwaukie (Ore.) 9--El Camino scored 14 runs in the first three innings at home. Kevin Knudson was three for three with two RBIs, and Fred Hernandez was two for four with a triple and three RBIs for El Camino (4-3).

City Central League

Lincoln 5, Hoover 2--Lincoln scored five runs on just two hits, but got help from five Hoover errors. Roger Blake had a bases-empty home run for Hoover (2-7, 0-1).

San Diego 9, Crawford 1--Winning pitcher Josh Stepner (3-0) had two doubles, and pinch-hitter Carlos Rivera hit a grand slam for San Diego (6-2, 2-0). Jeff Williams added a double, triple and RBI against Crawford (6-2, 1-1).

City Eastern League

Point Loma 8, Patrick Henry 7--Brett Callan had three hits and scored three runs, and Lamarr Mainor had two hits and three RBIs to lead Point Loma (5-4, 2-0). Losing pitcher Scott Arlin had two hits for Patrick Henry (0-2).

Morse 8, Serra 8 (tie)--Sophomore pitcher Chris Lilac (0.53 ERA) allowed his first earned run in 13 innings for Serra (0-0-1) in a game called because of darkness after seven innings. Mike Miller went three for five with two RBIs for the Conquistadors. Morse is 0-1-1.

City Western League

Mission Bay 10, La Jolla 1--Jason Enomoto hit a bases-empty home run, and Jesus Munoz was two for four with four RBIs as Mission Bay (2-6, 1-1) won behind a five-run second inning at La Jolla (5-3, 0-1).

Kearny 8, University City 6--Kearny scored twice in the top of the seventh to break a 6-6 tie. Scott Goligoski went the distance for the victory and singled in Kearny’s final run. Troy Lane was four for four with an RBI for University City (4-4, 1-1).
