Cook Named 1-A Division Player of Year

Montclair Prep’s Keyaan Cook, who batted .537 and helped lead the Mounties to the Southern Section 1-A Division championship, has been selected the division’s player of the year by a panel of sportswriters.
Cook drove in 33 runs and was joined on the first team by Montclair Prep catcher Brent Polacheck (.461, 41 runs batted in) and pitcher Kevin Grant (11-1, 1.80 earned-run average).
Outfielder Matt Bates and infielder Matt Smay of division finalist Village Christian were also first-team selections. Bates hit .393 and Smay hit .394.
Pitchers Steve Palmer (9-2, 1.42 ERA) and Anthony Chessani (10-1, 1.75 ERA) and infielder Chad Van Winkle (.400) of Fillmore made the first team.
Paraclete’s Tim Salado (8-3, 2.29 ERA) made the team as a pitcher and St. Bonaventure’s Kevin Zoll (.549, 8-4, 1.21 ERA) made the team as a utility player.
